Borobudur temple is ancient temple inherited by Buddhism and was built as place to meditate or to stand in silence. Borobudur is a part of history that has been aged more than 12 centuries, and includes as one of the wonders of the world. Borobudur’s name originated from words Boro and Budur, where Boro means temple or shrine from Sanskrit ‘Byara’ while Budur remains us of Balinese ‘Beduhur’ which means above the hill.
Borobudur temple which is build above the hill as stepped pyramid was made of piles of more than 2.000.000 andesitic rocks.
If we examine the temple from a distant it gives us a shape of stupa but when we get near it, two items or building styles. Upper part has the shape of main stupa and is based on three round kernels, this style represents Indian architecture style while the lower parts is stepped pyramid shaped as quadrilateral with the angels. This shape illustrates Javanese style or architecture, however both parts is a unity and as a whole it resembles stupa.
Prambanan is the biggest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia.
The famous Borobudur, this temple complex is top of Java art with Hindu-Buddhis pattern. This second inheritance become a witness of Central Java greatness in the past, which is referred as the 'classical period', between 775-900 M.
Although often compared to Borobudur, Prambanan entirely different in both design and in construction. Strength and beauty of Borobudur located in the wide structure, large and strong, complete with various edge and alley that flows toward to the top, the main stupa. On the contrary in Prambanan, that make us interesting are building distribution - into a large number of perwara temple and also relationship between the various parts. There difference between Borobudur and Prambanan, but there is an important similarity. Ratu Boko Palace is a very beautiful place and uniqueness. This palace is in Prambanan area, about 2 km to the south from Prambanan temple or 18 km to the east from Yogyakarta. This Palace is in the top of the hill with about 196 m high or 195.7 m above sea level. Because of its location, we can enjoy a variety of beautiful scenery, the Prambanan temple background with Mount Merapi and the rural atmosphere, surrounded by the fertile rice fields.
Ratu Boko Palace is one of remarkable survival of Rakai Panangkaran government, one of the descendants of Sailendra dynasty. View from the laying pattern remains of the building, is suspected of this site is a powerful former palace (the king's palace). The "Ratu Boko" name itself based on the legend of the local community. Ratu Boko means "heron king" is the father of the Loro Jongrang (name of the main temple complex at Prambanan temple). Based on the source of the inscription Walaing M 792 numbered year, contains about the establishment Abhayagiriwihara by Rakai Panangkaran. Based on the structure of the building and inscription that is found, Ratu Boko complex originally is a wihara for the Buddhist clergy called Abhayagiri. Then in the year 856 M, the complex is enabled as a Palace by Rakai Walaing Pu Khumbayoni who are Hindu. therefore not surprising that when the elements of Hinduism and Buddhism appear mixed in the building. The Ramayana is a story of epical dimensions and living legend for millennia. Amongst the ancient literature, the tale of the heroic Prince Rama and his loyal wife Sita might be the most influential story. The first historical mention of the Ramayana in Southeast Asia is a sixth century inscription in Cambodia. Then, the Ramakerti in Khmer version was known in around 16th to 17th century. In Indonesia (Java), at sometime around the end of the ninth century A.D. the story of Rama come from a sculptural narration at Prambanan temple and a poetic rendition in Old Javanese in Java and also in Bali. Sambisari Temple
To see a discovery-in-progress, visit Candi Sambisari, where the remains of a small temple, discovered in 1966, are being excavated. The floor of the temple lies four to five metres below the surface of the surrounding padi-fields, and ancient walls, doordayw and altars have been finely preserved under centuries-old layers of volcanic ash and dust. Parts of the temple have been tentatively reassembled on the edge of the dig, but there is still much more to be done. Watching Sambisari emerge from the soil, you'll wonder how many more temples are hidden in the heart of Central Java.
